Case Management Intern
Outreach York is a multi-purpose community resource center serving Villa Park and Lombard residents. Programs include after-school and summer programs for children and youth in 1st – 8th grades, supportive wrap-around case management services for program families and community organizing.
Case management services assist adults struggling with life challenges, including financial issues, problems with public benefits, immigration issues and employment. Staff provide translation, relationships, spiritual care, resources and financial assistance.
After training, the intern will meet with clients daily, fielding a variety of concerns. Through supervision, interns will learn interview and assessment skills, how to conduct occasional home visits, gain an understanding of community resources, assist with providing referral information and take steps towards maturity as a professional helper. Interns are responsible for learning how to advocate for clients and provide emotional support, budgeting assistance, and other wrap around services. Interns will learn and perform reporting for department performance evaluation and grant requirements. The intern will assist the team in providing information on referrals and advocacy to navigate community services. The intern will work with case managers and clients to resolve current issues and plan for the household’s long-term stability.
The intern will gain valuable knowledge of the issues confronting immigrant families, the working poor, those who are attempting to move from welfare to work, and the social institutions (government, religious, business), which most impact these populations. The intern will receive experience in the over-all working of a Christian, community-based social service ministry and gain valuable knowledge working with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of youth and staff.
BSW/BA or MSW/MA students in Social Work, Education, Sociology, Spanish, Psychology, Ministry or a related field. Must have a heart for working cross-culturally and embrace the theology of service to the vulnerable. Outreach seeks interns that demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of low-income and diverse populations who also support OCM’s Statement of Mission & Faith.
