Financial Assistance Case Management Intern

Outreach Wheaton is a comprehensive youth and family resource center serving children, youth, parents, and young adults through individual, family and marital counseling, crisis intervention and transitional housing. Outreach- Wheaton works to help young people and their families make healthy adjustments in their personal, family, and community lives.
Program: Case Management
Case management services assist adults struggling with life challenges, including financial issues, problems with public benefits, and employment. Staff provide relationships, spiritual care, resources, and financial assistance.
Responsibilities/Opportunities:
After training, the intern will meet with clients daily, fielding a variety of concerns. Through supervision, interns will learn interview and assessment skills, gain an understanding of community resources, assist with providing referral information and take steps towards maturity as a professional helper. Interns will learn how to advocate for clients and provide emotional support, budgeting assistance, reporting requirements and other wrap around services.
The intern will receive experience in the overall working of a Christian, community based social service ministry serving a diverse population as well as gain valuable knowledge of the issues confronting the working poor, those who are attempting to move from welfare to work, and the social institutions (government, religious, business), which most impact these populations.
Requirements:
BA/BSW or MA/MSW student in social work, psychology, human services, or a related field. Outreach seeks interns that demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of low-income and diverse populations and who also support Outreach’s Statement of Mission & Faith.
Schedule/Hours:
Minimum of 20 hours/week; Monday – Thursday; between the hours of 8:30 am – 5 pm. Hours can be negotiated based on internship requirements.
Supervision:
Weekly individual LCSW or LCPC supervision offered/provided. Interns may have the opportunity to attend clinical trainings.
