The Resource Development team works to provide for the current and long-term financial stability of the organization and to facilitate the growth in services that are outlined in the organization’s strategic plan. Resource Development works to develop strong community-based support for operations and raises funds for capital projects through key strategies such as marketing, grant-writing, fund-raising, major gift solicitation, and multiple fund-raising events. The team also works to increase the community’s awareness of the presence and work of Outreach Community Ministries through the agency’s website, press, annual newsletters, corporate identity, and community events.
Responsibilities/Opportunities:
The intern will work directly with the Digital Communications Manager in a variety of areas. Intern activities may include conducting research and contributing to the development of marketing and public relations plans, researching media outlets in DuPage County, networking with area businesses, and attending local events. The intern will also engage in collecting stories and writing content for newsletters, reports, emails, videos, social media, and the agency website. The intern will gain knowledge about how a non-profit organization markets itself and the various components of a public relations and marketing plan. The intern may have the opportunity to work with vendors including graphic designers, promotional video producers, and website designers.
The intern will receive exposure to the overall working of a Christian, community-based non-profit organization and will gain valuable knowledge about fundraising structure and marketing and public relations procedures. The intern will also participate in departmental staff and committee meetings.
Requirements:
BA/BS student in journalism, integrated marketing communications, marketing, public relations, non-profit administration, or related field. Strong organizational skills are required. Basic photography and video skills, website development exposure, and intermediate writing, editing, and proofreading skills are preferred. Experience with Microsoft Publisher required. Experience with Canva and Adobe Creative Suite is a plus. Outreach seeks interns who demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of low-income and diverse populations and who also support OCM’s Statement of Mission & Faith. Graduate-level internships also are available.
Schedule/Hours:
Minimum of 12 hours/week, Monday – Friday, between the hours of 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
The internship can be for one semester or for the entire academic year. Attendance at occasional weekend or evening events will be expected
Supervision:
Individual supervision is provided weekly.
