Mateo’s Story

Matteo’s life began in Colombia, where he was raised in a missionary family. In 2014, he moved to Carol Stream at age 8. His mom sought childcare at the Community Center in Carol Stream, where staff and volunteers nurtured his academic and language skills.

Mr. Harve Simpson, a senior volunteer, diligently mentored Mateo, which changed his life. In 3 years, Matteo excelled academically and mastered English. His faith in the Lord, hard work, and dedication earned him a scholarship to Wheaton Academy. Recently, he celebrated his acceptance to Yale, among other leading universities.

Today, he volunteers at Outreach as a way of giving back, teaching Christian education at Indian Knoll Elementary school. What a full circle of transformation! Matteo acknowledges Outreach’s pivotal role in shaping his life and is grateful for the investment.
