The counseling program of the Center provides individual, family, and group therapy for clients from the Carol Stream area. These services are offered though insurance (including Medicaid) or on a scholarship basis; no one is refused services due to inability to pay a fee. We work with a wide range of children, families, couples, and individual issues, including family conflict, domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, divorce and other losses, trauma, substance abuse, anxiety and depression. Opportunities are available to offer psychoeducational/skills-based groups at Outreach Community Center or OCCC.
Program:
The Assessment Clinic
The Assessment Clinic through Outreach provides psychological evaluation and consultation services to a broad spectrum of persons, ages and presenting problems. Referrals are received from the community (community center, other counseling programs, local schools, medical clinics, and police departments) and often are geared to clarifying diagnosis (i.e.-ADHD, learning disabilities, ASD, mood disorders, etc.), level of functioning and so on. Doctoral practicum students are actively involved in these evaluations.
Learning Opportunities:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated undergraduate intern to assist with psychological/neuropsychological testing at Outreach Assessment Clinic. This internship offers an excellent opportunity for students majoring in Psychology or related fields to gain hands-on experience in assessment in the context of a faith-based organization that serves under-resourced communities. Interns will work under the supervision of a licensed clinical psychologist with additional support from doctoral interns and externs, participating in and scoring assessments and contributing to program development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with Psychological/Neuropsychological Assessments: Under supervision, assist in administering symptom inventories and behavioral/personality inventories while learning about the clinical uses of a variety of assessment measures.
- Scoring Support: Assist in scoring test results and review data for inconsistencies.
- Data Entry & Management: Input, organize, and maintain client data and test results using Microsoft 365 and various scoring platforms.
- Shadowing: Observe diagnostic interviews and feedback sessions with clients and/or caregivers.
- Program Development: Support program development projects, such as organizing recommendation banks, piloting client satisfaction survey, and other needs that may arise (optional).
Requirements:
Bachelor’s student in clinical psychology, neuroscience, or a related field. A strong interest in neuropsychology and psychological assessment. Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail while handling sensitive client data and performing test scoring. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, research staff, and clients. Comfortable with both written and verbal communication. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information in accordance with ethical guidelines and HIPAA regulations. Outreach seeks interns who demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of low-income and diverse populations who also support Outreach’s Statement of Mission & Faith.
Schedule/Hours:
Hours can be negotiated based on internship requirements and interns’ availability. Internship for the entire academic year preferred
Supervision:
Weekly individual supervision will provided by a licensed psychologist or doctoral intern.
